Ocean Carriers Hike India-Europe Rates

7/29/2011 9:48:14 AM

Mediterranean Shipping Co., Hamburg Sud, Hapag-Lloyd are raising prices on westbound shipments

Three major ocean carriers are hiking rates on westbound shipments from India to Europe, starting in early August.

Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Co. said it’s raising rates on the route by $250 per 20-foot container as of Aug. 8. The increase will cover all cargo destined for Europe, Adriatic, Mediterranean and Black Sea destinations.

Hamburg Sud will increase its rates by $150 per TEU on export containers moving from India to Europe and the Mediterranean. The increase is slated to take effect Aug. 15, the German carrier said Thursday.

Other recent GRI announcements on India-Europe trade lanes included a $125 per-TEU hike by Hapag-Lloyd, starting Aug. 1.
