JetStar, a wholy-owned subsidiary of the Australian national airlines Qantas Freight started operation in Vietnam on Nov. 30, 2006.
Qantas Freight appointed Sovereign Global Logistics,Vietnam (SGL) as their General Sales and Service Agent (GSSA) in Vietnam. SGL is to
generate outbound air cargo from Vietnam to Australia and handle inbound air cargo from Australia into Vietnam carried by JetStar.
To mark this landmark event,a dinner reception at Sofitel Plaza on 29 November 2006, Ho Chi Minh City was hosted by Sovereign Global Logistics. Attending the dinner reception were Ms Margaret Lee, Qantas Regional Freight Manager Asia; Ms Benjawan Satanimi, Qantas Manager Freight Thailand & Vietnam; Ms. Shirley Wong, Qantas GM Freight Sales Office Singapore; Mr. Mal Skelly, Consul General of Australian Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Terry Harper, Qantas Manager Freight Ground Handling; air freight customers, the media, and the staff and management of Sovereign Global Logistics Vietnam.
In the initial stage, JetStar operates 3 direct flights from Hochiminh City to Sydney per week, using A330-200 with a total cargo volume carrying capacity of about 70 cbm per flight.
With a nearly 9 hour-flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Sydney, Qantas Freight provides fast transportation ensuring a speedy and timely delivery of urgent shipments,especially perishable cargoes,to and from Australia. With an established extensive worldwide network, Qantas Freight forwards cargoes to/from worldwide destinations.
In her inauguration flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Sydney on 30 November 2006, Jet Star was fully loaded with 11,764Kg/66.17cbm of outbound air freight which was secured by Sovereign Global
Logistics Vietnam.
