MSC Hikes US to Far East Rates

1/18/2012 8:53:28 AM

Mediterranean Shipping will raise rates from the United States to the Far East, effective March 1, as the container line taps growing American exports and builds on a successful early 2012 rate push.

The world’s second-largest container carrier will implement a general rate increase of $50 per 20-foot container and $100 per 40-foot containers for shipments out of U.S. West Coast ports. The cost for shipments originating from inland intermodal sites to West Coast ports will be double.

The Geneva-based carrier will also impose rate increases on shipments from U.S. East Coast and Gulf ports of $100 per 20-foot container and $150 per 40-foot container. The price on the latter will rise $50 if the shipment originates from an inland intermodal site.
