Several local and international airline companies started to increase jet fuel surcharges for Hong Kong and mainland China routes by as much as 10 percent, China’s state-run CCTV television reported.
Airlines including China Eastern, Taiwan’s China Airlines and Qantas Airways increased their surcharge fees for Hong Kong to mainland routes by up to 10 percent. Among them, China Eastern has increased its surcharge for mainland to Hong Kong routes by RMB15, the report said.
Under the current system, airlines can only raise the surcharge if China's official jet fuel price rises by more than RMB250 ($39) a tonne. Airlines must wait five days after the official jet fuel price is announced before increasing the surcharge.
