Saudi Airlines Cargo has begun weekly 747 freighter service to Ghana, expanding the Middle Eastern carrier’s freighter service network to seven African countries, according to reports.
The service from Accra, the capital and largest city in Ghana, to the biggest and wealthiest Middle Eastern country adds to the carrier's African network, which includes Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Chad, Sudan and South Africa. The expansion into Africa, particularly the west, comes as shippers increasingly look to source within the continent and tap the burgeoning African middle class.
Peter Scholten, SAC vice president, commercial, said the carrier will “increase the number of flights depending on business growth,” according to the Ghana Broadcasting Corp.
Saudi Airlines, based in Jeddah, operates 12 freighters and offers belly capacity on its 140 passenger aircraft. Most recently, the carrier has expanded its freighter services to Europe and launched a link to Saigon, Vietnam.
