Vietnamese Container Ship Sinks After Collision

4/12/2012 10:47:26 AM

A Vietnamese vessel carrying 60 containers sank off the shore of southern Vietnam after it collided with a Thai ship Tuesday morning, according to reports.

The 16-member crew of the Truong Hai Star was rescued, and authorities salvaged about 30 containers, according to VietNamNet Bridge. The majority of the containers contained motor vehicles and auto parts.

The sunken vessel is reportedly worth $2 million, and the insurer is expected to cover related cost and losses.

The incident comes after a cruise ship collided with a containership in heavy fog off the Vietnamese coast in mid-March. The Silver Shadow, operated by Silversea Cruises, sustained minor damage, and the cargo vessel was badly damaged, according to CNN.
