For the second time in less than a week, APL is delaying its peak-season surcharges on the India-North America trades. The surcharges now will take effect on Jan. 15.
The Singapore-based liner last week had postponed the implementation date from Dec. 15 to Jan. 1.
The surcharges on cargo destined for ports in the U.S. and the Virgin Islands would be 360 per 20-foot container, $450 per 40-foot container, $505 per 40-foot high cube and $570 per 45-foot high cube container.
From India to Canada, the surcharges would be $480 per 20-foot, $600 per 40-foot, $675 per 40-foot-high-cube and $760 per 45-foot-high-cube container.
The surcharges apply to all cargo and containers.
Hapag-Lloyd, meanwhile, announced a general rate increase on dry and reefer shipments from North America to East Asia, the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East. Effective Jan. 15, the planned increase on dry cargo would be $160 per TEU and $200 per FEU, while refrigerated cargo would attract an increase of $1,200 per TEU and $1,500 per FEU. The subcontinent includes ports in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
