COSCO Shipping's Cosco Tengfei recently carried 947 automobiles for Brazil manufactured by Chery, which left from the port of Zhangjiagang on the lower Yangtze, marking the first international ro-ro shipment for the carmaker.
This is the first time that an automobile ro-ro ship sailed up the Yangtze and was also the first time Zhangjiagang loaded ro-ro vessel.
Zhangjiagang Bonded Port Area is the largest port for foreign trade and the only port for whole-car import on the Yangtze River. Its automobile import and export volume is estimated to rise to 350,000 vehicles in a few years. This is bound to have great positive impact on the automobile and part manufacturing industry along the river.
