Major container lines have announced planned rate increases for a variety of trades, as detailed below, slated to take effect in September and October.
Asia-Europe
Starting Oct. 1, CMA CGM will attempt to increase rates in its trade from North Europe to the Far East by $200 per 20-foot container and $400 per 40-foot container.
Mediterranean Shipping Co. is also planning a general rate increase from Europe — both North Europe and the Mediterranean — to the Far East on Oct. 1, in the amount of $200 per 20-foot or 40-foot container.
Maersk Line is looking to raise rates from the Indian subcontinent to the Mediterranean, as follows:
- From Bangladesh to the Mediterranean, effective Sept. 21: $100 per 20-foot, $200 per 40-foot and 40-foot high cube dry container.
- From India and Sri Lanka to the Mediterranean, effective Oct. 1: $200 per 20-foot, $300 per 40-foot and 40-foot high cube dry container.
Intra-Asia
CMA CGM aims to boost rates from all Asian ports, excluding Japan, to Sri Lanka, Pakistan and West India, by $200 per TEU, effective Sept. 15.
Trans-Atlantic
MSC will try to implement a GRI on all export cargo from Canada, the United States and Mexico to North Europe, effective Oct. 14, as follows: $100 per 20-foot container; $150 per 40-foot container.
Trans-Pacific
Cosco has planned a rate hike from the Far East and Indian subcontinent to Canada, effective Oct. 15. The increase will be $320 per 20-foot container, $400 per 40-foot container, $450 per 40-foot high-cube container and $506 per 45-foot container.
Asia-Australia
Maersk Line has announced planned rate hikes in the Asia-Australia trade, as follows:
- From South Korea, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan to Australia, effective Sept. 20: $500 per 20-foot, $1,000 per 40-foot and 40-foot high cube dry container.
- From Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh to Australia, effective Oct. 1: $250 per 20-foot, $500 per 40-foot and 40-foot high cube dry container.
Asia-South America
Effective Sept. 15, Maersk Line aims to impose a rate hike on shipments from Far East Asia to the east coast of South America, in the following amounts: $750 per 20-foot, $1,500 per 40-foot and 40-foot high cube dry container.
