Conakry, Guinea situation update - Cease acceptance of bookings
The West African nation of Guinea is currently under martial law. The port of Conakry has in recent weeks experienced challenges in ensuring basic functionality, initially due to a strike and subsequently the martial law.
Maersk Line containers destined for Conakry are accumulating in various locations as we are unable to deliver the cargo while the port is closed.
The only way to prevent further deterioration of this problem is to curtail import cargo for Conakry until the situation improves, the government regains control, and we have cleared the back-log at various locations.
With immediate effect Maersk Line will have to cease acceptance of all bookings for Conakry. We are presently unable to say when conditions will improve and when we will re-open for bookings. Though highly regrettable, this solution is absolutely necessary in order to help ease the situation from further deterioration.
We will keep you updated on the situation.
For more information please contact you local maersk Line representative.
