Wuhan to invest $16b to upgrade ports

5/9/2014 8:38:36 AM

The city government of Wuhan plans to invest nearly US$16 billion to upgrade port facilities along the Yangtze River by 2020.

The funds will be used to finance some 50 projects, including dredging new harbours and building container ports to expedite container shipping from Wuhan to Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam and Thailand, reported Xinhua.

Total thoroughput capacity will grow to 5.5 million containers by 2020, up from 800,000 containers last year.
