UPS launches another “around the world” flight

5/29/2007 10:31:28 AM

UPS will launch a new "around the world" flight in July, to further enhance service between Singapore and the Middle East, Europe and the US.

The new flight will improve pick-up times and provide more airlift in response to customers' demands. For instance, a pick-up time of 20h00 will apply for shipments from Singapore to Europe and Mumbai.

UPS will operate five additional weekly frequencies using MD-11 aircraft. Each week, the aircraft will fly from the carrier’s European air hub in Cologne, Germany, connecting to Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore and Mumbai. The flight also will connect to the company's international air hub in Louisville, Kentucky, from Cologne.

With UPS's eleven existing "around the world" flights, the total number of worldwide flights now increases to sixteen per week.

According to Mary Yeo, managing director of UPS Singapore, the new flights are part of the company’s aggressive efforts to extend service options for customers in Singapore, and will also support the growing trend of trade between South Asia and the Middle East and Europe by providing greater access to the regions.

“This service enhancement, in addition to the new UPS distribution and logistics centre at the Airport Logistics Park of Singapore (ALPS), further supports the Singapore government's vision to make the country a regional logistics hub,” added Yeo.

The 425,000 sq.ft ALPS facility is one of UPS's key operations centres in the region, and provides air and ocean freight as well as logistics and specialty services.
