Yang Ming said it will start a second East Mediterranean feeder service in January to link to its Asia-Med services into Port Said, Egypt.
The Taiwanese carrier said the new service, the TIX2, will use two 1,800-TEU vessels with a port rotation of Port Said, Istanbul, Haydarpasa, Izmi, and Ashdod and Port Said. The service will be offered weekly, complementing its existing TIX service, which uses one 1,200-TEU vessel with a port rotation of Port Said, Ashdod, and Mersin and Port Said.
Yang Ming said the two services provide "a reliable connection at Port Said with its direct services from Asia to the West Mediterranean or to Northern Europe which carry East Mediterranean transshipment cargo." The carrier is also expecting the feeder services to lure intra-Europe cargo.
