On March 29, 2010, Maersk Line announces the introduction of a direct service between South Việt Nam and the US West Coast with its premier Trans-Pacific 6 String (TP6).
The first sailing will be with the Mathilde Maersk on Wednesday, May 12, 2010.
The new service will call SP-PSA International Terminal in Vũng Tàu, Việt Nam, a deepwater facility located 80km south of Hồ Chí Minh City near the mouth of Cái Mép-Thị Vải River. It will have a Wednesday sailing ex Vũng Tàu, providing an optimal Monday evening cargo closing for exporters and a Sunday arrival into the APM Terminals facility in Los Angeles, California, with a transit time of 18 days.
Westbound port rotation for imports from the West Coast will remain unchanged.
With the direct TP6 call, Maersk Line becomes the first carrier to introduce the large “Post-Panamax” class (9,000 TEU) to Việt Nam.
Maersk Line’s TP6 service offers a competitive product covering the Far East and US West Coast. With the deployment of 14 vessels, ports of call easbound will include Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia; Vũng Tàu, Việt Nam; Yantian, China; Hong Kong, China and Los Angeles, California.
The westbound rotation will be Los Angeles, California; Yokohama, Japan; Nagoya, Japan; Shanghai, China; Ningbo, China; Xiamen, China; Hong Kong, China; Yantian, China, and Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia. South Việt Nam imports will continue to be served via transshipment at Hong Kong by feeder service.
North and Central Việt Nam will continue unchanged to be served by feeder via Hong
Kong and/or Tanjung Pelepas.
