Two Lines Launch Singapore-Malaysia-India Service

6/29/2010 10:03:08 AM

Regional Container Lines of Thailand and Middle East-based Simatech Shipping plan to launch a joint container service linking Singapore, Malaysia and the Indian subcontinent, effective this month.

The weekly service, called the Straits-India-Pakistan (SIP) Service, will operate with three vessels of 1,400 20-foot equivalent units capacity, with Simatech phasing in two vessels and RCL contributing one.

The port rotation is Port Kelang, Singapore, Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru), Karachi, Mundra, Colombo, and back to Port Kelang.

The first vessel on the SIP is the Sima Sahba, expected to call Nhava Sheva on June 29. The maiden call at Mundra is currently scheduled for July 2.

The new service is expected to complement Simatech’s recently-launched East Africa Service, operated in conjunction with Evergreen Line and Wan Hai Lines.

The EAF, deploying three 1,200-TEU vessels, calls Colombo, Mombasa, Dar es Salaam, and back to Colombo.
