Asiana Launches Korea-Atlanta Freighter

9/16/2010 10:29:05 AM

Asiana Airlines began scheduled freighter service from Seoul to Atlanta this week, adding a direct connection between Atlanta and South Korea’s rapidly growing export economy.

Officials at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport said they expect the four times weekly service to add 25 jobs and $24 million in economic impact in the region.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed was on hand Monday night for arrival of the first flight, an addition of freight to an airport that already has seen air cargo grow 22 percent this year over 2009, including a 35 percent increase in international cargo.

The improvement has been helped by the addition of Asian airlines. Singapore Airlines began scheduled service to Hartsfield-Jackson a year ago, and the airport now has 14 freighter operators.
