Maersk Line’s intra-Europe specialist carrier is to begin operations this month, according to a report last week by maritime consultancy Alphaliner.
Maersk and sister line Safmarine are rolling their intra-Europe services under a new brand, called Seago. The new subsidiary is thought to be modeled on Maersk’s successful intra-Asia specialist carrier MCC Transport.
According to Alphaliner, Maersk is the second-largest carrier in intra-Europe, when measured by capacity, after Mediterranean Shipping Co. The Danish line operates 58 ships, accounting for 90,000 TEUs of vessel capacity, on dedicated intra-European routes.
