NYK Line, Evergreen Line and Simatech Shipping will jointly launch the new Bengal Arabian Service (BAS), connecting key ports in the Indian subcontinent, starting later this month.
Four 1,700 20-foot-equivalent unit vessels will be deployed in the regional service, with the first ship scheduled to arrive at Chittagong, Bangladesh, on June 27.
The port rotation will be Chittagong; Colombo, Sri Lanka; Karachi, Pakistan; Mundra, India; Colombo; and back to Chittagong.
In other trade news, NYK Line has started calling at Kattupalli International Container Terminal, India’s new private facility near Chennai, on a trial basis with its Thailand-Chennai Express (TCX) Service.
Kattupalli port, about 16 miles north of Chennai, began commercial operations in April, offering nearly 2,300 feet of berth, a 46-foot draft, 5,000 ground slots and an annual capacity of 1.2 million TEUs in its first phase.
