The British low-cost carrier easyJet has introduced daily flights from Vienna to London Luton starting on 29 October.
“We are very pleased to welcome easyJet, one of the largest carriers at Vienna International Airport. This airline will provide additional impulses for incoming traffic, and also serve as an important driver for tourism to the region”, commented Friedrich Lehr, Head of Aviation for Flughafen Wien AG, at a joint press conference with Oliver Aust, Speaker of the easyJet corporation, and Norbert Kettner, Managing Director of WienTourismus, following the inaugural flight of easyJet.
The Vienna - London Luton route will be flown with a 149-seat Boeing 737-700. “The expansion of our schedule to also include flights to Austria represents an excellent opportunity. This connection between Vienna and London links two of the most fascinating cities in Europe, which are interesting for business travellers as well as weekend visitors. Based on the attractiveness of these destinations and low initial prices starting at EUR 34, we expect roughly 100,000 passengers during the first 12 months”, indicated Aust.
A strong helper for WienTourismus in Project 2010 “We are pleased that easyJet has decided to add Vienna to its flight schedule. This will create added momentum for the number of visitors coming from Great Britain“, explained Kettner.
easyJet now serves 352 routes in Europe, connecting 87 key airports in 23 countries. A fleet of 137 aircraft are in operation each day. Over the past 12 months, this carrier handled more than 37 million passengers.
The London Luton airport, which handles over 9 million passengers per year, is located north of London. The city centre can be reached easily by train or bus.
