Italian labour unions have called a 24-hour strike of air transportation workers in the northern region of Lombardy for November 26 to protest Alitalia’s plan to scale back its operations from Milan's Malpensa airport.
Troubled state-run airline Alitalia recently announced that it had no option but to downsize its operations from Malpensa in favour of routes using the Rome hub, Fiumicino.
The move has sparked a major debate within Italy, with Milan's regional and city politicians strongly criticising the strategy as unfairly favouring Rome.
The planned strike is the latest in a string of labour actions to hit Italy's national airline.
