Seatrade, the world's largest specialist reefer shipping operator, announced plans to consolidate at the Port of Tauranga, adding an additional 18 vessel calls per annum.
Port of Tauranga chief executive, Mark Cairns, said the port has enjoyed a long and productive association with Seatrade, so naturally the company is delighted with the decision to relocate from Auckland and consolidate on Tauranga as the primary New Zealand Port.
He said the company recognises the importance of break-bulk and conventional reefer cargo and have planned to ensure the sufficient provision of land and facilities to cater for future growth in these trades.
Seatrade's decision also demonstrates confidence in MetroPort Auckland service as a viable option to move import and export containers into and out of the Greater Auckland Region.
