International cargo traffic of Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) expressed in freight tonne kilometres (FTKs) grew by just 3.1 percent in 2007, significantly lower than the 5 percent rate seen in 2006. The average cargo load factor fell slightly to 66.7 percent.
Commenting on the full-year results, Mr. Andrew Herdman, AAPA’s Director General said: “The volume of international air cargo carried by AAPA member airlines in 2007 also set a new record, although the growth rate, in FTK terms, was more modest.”
Herdman said shorter term prospects for the Asia Pacific region this year were expected to remain broadly positive, but were overshadowed by the potential impact of recent turmoil in financial markets, and related tightening of credit conditions.
