British Airways World Cargo (BAWC) has announced an increase to its fuel surcharge. The surcharge will be GBP0.66 / USD1.00 / EUR1.00, with effect from 01 May.
The fuel surcharge increase follows a second consecutive week that its fuel index has been above the level 20 threshold. Adam Carson, senior manager revenue management BAWC, said: "Fuel prices continue to rise, making it necessary to increase our fuel surcharge in line with the index."
Meanwhile, aviation jet fuel was selling for US$144.5 a barrel this week, an increase of 69.3 per cent compared to the same period last year according to International Air Transport Association (IATA) stats. The new fuel price average for 2008 is US$121.6 a barrel and the estimated impact on airlines’ fuel bill for 2008 (using IATA methodology) is US$58 billion plus.
