Later than planned, New World Alliance carriers APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine and MOL, together with service partner CMA CGM, are set to resume weekly sailings on their joint Asia/U.S. East Coast service.
The service — marketed by the New World lines as the East Coast Savannah Express (ESX) and by CMA CGM as SAX — switched to a fortnightly pattern in mid-December and was due to revert back to a weekly frequency by the end of March.
The upgrade effectively doubles the service’s capacity so that now eight vessels averaging 4,800 TEUs will call Ningbo; Shanghai; Chiwan; Hong Kong; Manzanillo, Panama; Savannah, Ga.; New York, N.Y.; Norfolk, Va; and Ningbo again.
The Asia/U.S. East Coast trade is due another boost in vessel capacity as the CKYH Alliance — COSCO Container Lines, “K” Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin Shipping — will next week restart their AWE-5 Central service that was suspended at the end of last year.
