Israeli ocean carrier Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. on July 6 took delivery of a 4,250-TEU vessel at Samsung Heavy Industries’ Koje shipyard in Korea.
The Zim Rio Grande is the first of a series of eight similar long-term chartered new vessels that will be delivered to the Haifa-based carrier between now and June 2009.
The new ship has now been deployed on Zim’s weekly Asia/Europe East-West Express Service (EWX), joining the service in Shanghai on July 8. Zim said the EWX now operates with nine 4,250-TEU vessels on a rotation of Shanghai, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Shekou, Port Kelang, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Antwerp, Southampton, Le Havre and Shanghai.
