A tentative agreement have been reached with the 25,000 West Coast longshore workers, and the shipping companies that employ them, after the expiry of their six-year contract on July 1 led to disruptive labour actions, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Details of the agreement have not yet been disclosed.
The employers' group and the union agreed to extend terms of the expired contract until the vote on the new contract takes place and resume operations at 29 ports in California, Oregon and Washington.
Both sides have been in negotiations since March, hoping they could reach an agreement before the contract expired.
