Turkish Air expands Budapest freighter service

3/8/2012 10:21:11 AM

Turkish Airlines has added a second all-cargo flight to its weekly service at Budapest Airport in Hungary.

The airline's cargo division began flying an Airbus A310 freighter between Istanbul and Budapest last July. Turkish Cargo now departs Budapest Thursday afternoons and Saturday morning.

The flights primarily delivery textiles and electronics from the Far East to Budapest Airport, which is expected to complete a new Cargo City for freight consolidators and ground handling agents by the end of the year. Exports airlifted from Hungary include pharmaceuticals, engineered products and electronic appliances.

Turkish Cargo said it plans to increase its freighter frequency to three times per week and replace the A310s with larger Airbus A330s, with capacity for 67 tons per flight instead of 38 tons. It also wants to operate daily cargo service between the two cities by 2015 to meet growing demand.

The airline has delivered about 1,500 tons of cargo in the first six months of service.
