ANA, JAL International Cargo Volumes Rise

Japan’s All Nippon Airways Co. (ANA) said that its international cargo volume grew for the second consecutive month in March on a year-on-year basis, rising a healthy 12.8 percent to 49,597 tons. The year-on-year pace of growth, however, dropped from 24.5 percent in February.

 

The volume of cargo ANA carried on its international routes in fiscal 2011, which ended on March 31, totaled 514,200 tons, up 4.0 percent from the previous fiscal year.

 

ANA’s domestic cargo volume fell 4.6 percent in March from a year earlier to 42,801 tons. The decline followed a year-on-year increase of 8.8 percent in February. The carrier’s domestic cargo volume in fiscal 2011 amounted to 481,125 tons, up 0.5 percent from the previous fiscal year.

 

Meanwhile, ANA’s struggling domestic rival Japan Airlines Corp. (JAL) said that its international cargo volume grew for the second straight month in March on a year-on-year basis, rising 9.5 percent to 22,383 tons, but the year-on-year pace of increase slowed from 14.1 percent in February.

 

JAL’s international cargo volume in fiscal 2011 totaled 237,605 tons, down a whopping 40.0 percent from the previous fiscal year.

 

JAL’s domestic cargo volume declined for 21 months in a row in March on a year-on-year basis, dropping 3.6 percent to 33,289 tons. JAL’s domestic cargo volume in fiscal 2011 amounted to 381,652 tons, down 13.3 percent from the previous fiscal year.
