Cargo Volumes Up at ANA, JAL

Japan’s All Nippon Airways Co. (ANA) said that its international cargo volume rose for the seventh straight month in September on a year-on-year basis, increasing 5.8 percent to 49,999 tons.

The volume of cargo ANA carried on its international routes in the first half of fiscal 2013, which started on April 1, totaled 287,410 tons, up 8.4 percent from the same six-month period last year.

ANA’s domestic cargo volume grew for four months in a row in September on a year-on-year basis, increasing 7.5 percent to 42,344 tons. The carrier’s domestic cargo volume in the April-September period amounted to 235,163 tons, up 2.0 percent from a year earlier.

Meanwhile, rival Japan Airlines Corp. (JAL) said that its international cargo volume rose for the sixth successive month in September on a year-on-year basis, increasing 7.7 percent to 22,723 tons.

The volume of cargo JAL carried on its international routes in the first half of the current fiscal year totaled 131,649 tons, up 6.9 percent from the same six-month period last year.

JAL’s domestic cargo volume rose for the seventh consecutive month in September on a year-on-year basis, edging up 0.3 percent to 33,406 tons. The carrier’s domestic cargo volume in the April-September period amounted to 198,408 tons, up 1.5 percent from a year earlier.

ANA and JAL both release monthly passenger and cargo figures without giving any analysis.
