Cosco Container Lines has announced an emergency bunker surcharge adjustment for both eastbound and westbound shipments in Far East to Northwest Europe and Mediterranean trade, effective March 1, until further notice. The new surcharges are $146 per 20-foot-equivalent between the Far East and Northwest Europe and $133 per TEU between the Far East and the Mediterranean.
Cosco also announced a bunker adjustment factor for both northbound and southbound shipments from Northwest Europe and the Mediterranean to South America’s east coast, effective March 1. The southbound shipment’s factor will be 458 euros (about US$625) per 20-foot container and $1,251 per 40-foot container, and the northbound shipment’s factor will be $265 per 20-foot container and $530 per 40-foot container.
Similarly, beginning March 1, the carrier announced a bunker adjustment factor for eastbound and westbound shipments in the Far East and Indian subcontinent to Europe and the Mediterranean. The factor will be $767 per 20-foot container and $1,534 per 40-foot container on shipments between the Far East and Northwest Europe, $722 per 20-foot container and $1,444 per 40-foot container on shipments between the Far East and Mediterranean and $460 per 20-foot container and $920 per 40-foot container on shipments between the Indian subcontinent and Northwest Europe and the Mediterranean.
Additionally, the carrier released a currency adjustment factor for both eastbound and westbound shipments in the Far East and Indian subcontinent to Northwest Europe and the Mediterranean trade, starting March 1. The factor will be 11.44 percent of ocean freight.
The carrier will also increase rates for all shipments from the Far East to the Red Sea, Persian Gulf and Indian subcontinent, effective March 15. The increase will be $500 per TEU for Red Sea and Persian Gulf trade and $300 per TEU for Indian subcontinent trade.
The company will hike rates for all shipments from the Far East, Japan and the India and Pakistan region to Northwest Europe and the Mediterranean, effective March 15, by $775 per TEU.
