ASIA Pacific air carriers saw an increase in international air cargo demand in May, up 0.5 per cent in freight tonne kilometres with freight capacity offered up 2.2 per cent, reducing the load factor 1.1 percentage points to 65.2 per cent.
According to the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA), international passenger traffic continued to show growth in May of 3.2 per cent and an "encouraging" 5.2 per cent during the first five months of the year.
AAPA director-general Andrew Herdman said air cargo has been depressed for a couple of years at 2.4 per cent decline during the same five-month period reflecting "weak conditions in key export markets".
