Maersk Line’s second Triple E container ship, Majestic Maersk, made its maiden call at China’s Ningbo port, in east China’s Zhenjiang province, on Aug. 16.
The mega-ship is one of the world’s largest, with a capacity of 18,000 20-foot-equivalent units. It was delivered on Aug. 3, and was built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME).
“Triple E stands for ‘Economy of scale,’ ‘Energy Efficient’ and ‘Environmentally improved,’” said David Williams, managing director of Maersk Line East and Central China, at a ceremony celebrating the call. “The 400 meters long, 59 meters wide vessel is not only majestic from its appearance, it also represents the most edge-cutting technology in today’s maritime industry.”
