Yang Ming swaps slots with UASC, China Shipping in transpacific

11/20/2013 9:22:38 AM

United Arab Shipping Co. (UASC) said it and China Shipping Container Liner (CSCL) will merge a joint transpacific string with one operated by Yang Ming to form a tripartite joint service.

What UASC calls the AWSI and CSCL labels its AAS2 will be merged with Yang Ming's PSW4, and each of the carriers say they will continue to use those individual designations.

The service will employ six vessels with nominal capacity of 4,250 TEUs. Three will be operated by Yang Ming, two by UASC, and one by CSCL.

The revised port rotation will be: Xiamen, Ningbo, Shanghai, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Xiamen. The first sailing in the merged service will depart Xiamen on Dec. 6.

The carriers will also swap slots on Yang Ming's existing PSW2 service and CSCL’s existing AAC service in the transpacific.

Through the slot swap, CSCL and UASC will take slots from Yang Ming’s PSW2 service, and Yang Ming will take slots from CSCL’s AAC service.

The PSW2 service will be marketed as AAS3 by CSCL and AWS3 by UASC. It will have the following port rotation: Hong Kong, Yantian, Kaohsiung, Keelung, Los Angeles, Oakland, Pusan, Kwangyang, Keelung, Kaohsiung, and Hong Kong.

The port rotation of the AAC service is as follows: Qingdao, Lianyungang, Shanghai, Ningbo, Pusan, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Qingdao.
