Hapag-Lloyd and Evergreen Line announced plans to increase rates on some of their India services.
Hapag-Lloyd will seek a new general rate increase for the trade moving on its services from the Indian subcontinent to Australia.
Effective July 1, the proposed increase will be $250 per 20-foot equivalent unit.
The GRI will apply to all cargo moving from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to destinations in Australia.
The German carrier earlier applied a similar GRI on the same trade lane as of June 15.
Hapag-Lloyd also plans to hike rates for cargo shipped from the Indian subcontinent to New Zealand with a GRI of the same amount. The planned increase will take effect on July 15.
Evergreen Line will increase rates on the westbound trades from the Indian subcontinent to Europe and the Mediterranean.
The Taiwan-based carrier said rates for all cargo, including reefer, will go up by $250 per TEU, $500 per 40-foot equivalent unit and $600 per 40-foot high cube container, effective July 1.
This is the sixth GRI that Evergreen has announced this year on the same route. It applied increases of $200 per TEU, $400 per FEU and $500 per 40-foot high cube container as of June 1.
