On 1 May, Czech Airlines will link Prague to the largest Kazakh city, Almaty (formerly Alma-Ata). Czech Airlines will operate service on this route twice weekly. The new service to Almaty will be the longest of all Czech Airlines medium-haul flights. The Prague - Almaty flight takes seven hours and Czech Airlines will operate it with its most modern Airbus A319 aircraft.
The departure times will suit businessmen from Western Europe, who can use it for business travel via Prague to Kazakhstan, as well as the tourist clientele. “Almaty is another point in the Czech Airlines network in the former Soviet Union. Czech Airlines has thus far not offered any connection to Kazakhstan or the area in general,” said Czech Airlines’ Vice President for Marketing and Product Development, Peter Pistilak, in commenting on the new route. Aside from the planned route from Prague to Almaty, the closest points in the Czech Airlines network are the Russian cities of Yekaterinburg and Samara. “For passengers from Kazakhstan, this new connection will open up a direct route to Prague, as well as the opportunity to transfer to the network of connecting Czech Airlines flights, primarily in Western Europe, but also to North America,” said Petr Pištìlák.
