DHL revamps air cargo fleet with 13 new aircraft

5/17/2011 9:40:53 AM

The Bonn-headquartered firm has purchased 13 new A300-600s to replace A300B4-200s that are reaching retirement age.

The passenger aircraft will be converted to freighter configuration by EADS Elbe Flugzeugwerke in Dresden, Germany, and will be fully integrated into the European fleet by early 2013, DHL said.

The new aircraft will have a higher payload and longer range, and consume around 20% less fuel, meaning they also emit around 20% less carbon.

The first aircraft is scheduled to enter the conversion line in early June, with arrival at DHL’s Leipzig Hub planned for October.
