A NEW cargo handling centre has officially begun operations at the Nanjing Lukou Airport in China, reports Xinhua News Agency.
The cargo centre covers an area measuring 34,200 square kilometres and boasts an annual handling capacity of 300,000 tons.
During a test run period that was started in July, the facility handled a total of 792 international cargo flights and 31,000 tons of cargo.
The Lukou Airport offers regular or chartered all-cargo service to Chicago, Los Angeles and Bangkok, handling nearly 30 flights every week, the report said.
As a result, the airport is ranked 10th in terms of air cargo throughput volumes among the nation's 146 airports, and fifth in terms of the volume of international airfreight that passes through its terminals.
