Hapag-Lloyd to Hike North America-Latin America Rates

2/21/2013 10:01:43 AM

Hapag-Lloyd will hike rates for all cargo and container types on its trade from North America to Latin America, effective April 1.

From the U.S. and Canada’s east coast to Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and east and west coasts of South America, the increase will be $150 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container. The ocean carrier said rates on cargo via Portland, Ore., will increase by an additional $150 per container because of higher terminal costs.

From Canada’s west coast to the Caribbean and Central America via Atlantic ports, the increase will be $100 per 20-foot container and $200 per 40-foot container. From Canada’s west coast to Mexico via Gulf ports, the hike will be $125 per 20-foot container and $250 per 40-foot container. Additionally, from Canada’s west coast to South America’s east coast, the increase will be $300 per 20-foot container and $400 per 40-foot container.

The ocean carrier will also increase rates from East Asia, excluding Japan, to the Persian Gulf, effective March 15. The hike will be $500 per box for refrigerated containers.

Separately, Hapag-Lloyd said it will be revising local surcharges and terminal handling charges in Vietnam and the fuel surcharge for inland haulage truck transports under carrier arrangement to and from Poland via ports in Poland and Germany.
