Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT) has officially opened its HK$1.75 billion Terminal 2 (T2) at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).
The new facility features a four-storey warehouse area of 130,000 m2, two airside levels and landside access to every warehouse level. T2 will increase AAT’s current handling capacity to 1.5 million tonnes per annum, representing 30% of HKIA’s air cargo handling capacity.
In 2006, HKIA handled more than HK$1.7 trillion worth of air cargo, accounting for more than 34% of Hong Kong’s external trade.
With the opening of T2, different functions will be assigned to T1 and each level of T2. The relocation of assigned operations to T2 was completed earlier this month.
