Hanjin Shipping will launch a new Pacific Southwest Coast service and will upgrade its Asia-Pacific Northwest service.
Hanjin’s new China-West Coast of America (CWS) service will call at Lianyungang (China) > Qingdao > Xiangang > Busan > Oakland (US) > Los Angeles > Lianyungang.
The service begins on May 25th from Lianyungang, and will use vessel space on Yang Ming Line, a CKYH Alliance member.
The new service will reduce transit time from Xiangang to Oakland by four days to thirteen days.
Hanjin also plans to upgrade its Asia-Pacific Northwest (YPN) service in May to directly link Hong Kong-Portland, Busan-Tacoma and Kaohsiung-Vancouver, to offer better service in this region where demand for cargo is high.
The upgraded service will deploy five 3,500 TEU vessels operated by Yang Ming Line, a CKYH alliance member.
The new port rotation for the YPN service will be: Hong Kong > Yantian > Kaohsiung > Busan > Tacoma > Vancouver > Portland > Busan > Hong Kong
Hanjin Shipping has ordered five more mega-sized 8,600 TEU vessels to upgrade its current main fleet, which currently comprises fifty mid-sized 4,000-5,000 TEU container ships operating on Asia-US/ Europe routes, the company’s main service lanes.
Hanjin also signed a contract to order two cape-sized bulk ships, and will order two panamax ships later this month.
In total, Hanjin operates around 200 vessels for a total of 10 million TEU, and will continue to expand and rationalise its fleet.
In other news, CMA CGM will launch a new dedicated Asia-North Africa via its Malta hub, beginning with a June 15th departure from Shanghai.
The shipping line will deploy seven 3,000 TEU ships on the new North Africa Express service, which will call at Shanghai > Ningbo > Hong Kong > Chiwan > Jakarta > Malta > Port Kelang > Jakarta > Chiwan.
The North Africa Express will provide connections with CMA CGM feeders to Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and Libya via the main hub of Malta. Transit times from Chiwan to Algiers will be 21 days and Shanghai to Tripoli, 24 days. The first ship, the CMA CGM JASMIN, will leave Shanghai on June 15, 2007.
