DHL's joint venture company in China, DHL-Sinotrans, has established a branch office in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa, becoming the first foreign express company to set up a presence on the roof of the world, reports Xinhua News Agency.
Following the opening of the Lhasa division, DHL-Sinotrans now has 73 branches in China in line with DHL's "First in China" strategy.
DHL-Sinotrans managing director Wu Dongming was cited saying in the report that the recently opened Qinghai-Tibet railway will help boost demand for express package delivery services in the region.
Including the Lhasa company, DHL-Sinotrans has this year opened 17 branches in central and western Chinese cities including Guiyang, Baotou, Urmuqi, Qinhuangdao, Rizhao and Zhenjiang.
