MOL to raise 50pc capacity of its Japan-Indonesia-SE Asia service

8/23/2012 10:18:22 AM

JAPAN's flag carrier MOL will increase the capacity of its Japan-Indonesia south east Asia string (CHS-3) by 50 per cent with four 4,250 TEU ships to replace the current four 2,800 TEU vessels.

In addition to two long-term chartered 4,250 TEU ships, MOL Distinction and MOL Dedication, according to maritime analyst Alphaliner, the Japanese carrier will charter another two vessels of this size from Taiwan's Wan Hai and rename them MOL Dawn and MOL Daylight.

MOL launched the CHS-3 service in March 2012, calling at Osaka, Kobe, Yokkaichi, Yokohama, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Port Kelang, Jakarta, Port Kelang, Singapore, Cai Mep and back to Hong Kong and Osaka. It is also the only intra-Asia loop calling at Vietnam's Cai Mep.

After strengthening the service to be the largest loop offering direct call at Jakarta, CHS-3 will also be MOL's second largest intra-Asia string after its Japan-Straits loop (CHS) with three 5,000 TEU vessels.
