U.S. steel imports in November totaled 2.659 million tons, up 2 percent from c million tons in October and a jump of 25.4 percent from November 2011 volume, according to preliminary government data covered by the American Institute for International Steel.
In the first 11 months of 2012, imports were 30.952 million tons, up 17 percent year-over-year.
Imports from both NAFTA and non-NAFTA partners were “essentially unchanged,” according to David Phelps, president of AIIS, as steel consumers “continued to show caution in their import ordering.”
