Air France-KLM-Martinair Cargo has flown four full freighters’ worth of Beaujolais Nouveau wine around the world in November.
Bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau, which are sold in the same year they are harvested, are released for sale each year on the third Thursday of November. In order to get the wine to market in time, Air France officials transported the goods around the world within a two-week window from the Beaujolais region of France.
More than 80 percent of the traffic went to Japan, making it the largest market for the wine in 2013. The majority of the wine went to Tokyo and Osaka. Japan also took the prize of largest Beaujolais importer in 2012.
