Tacoma to Welcome Two New Services in August

6/29/2012 10:59:40 AM

The Port of Tacoma will receive two new container services in early August when the Mediterranean Pacific and the Oceania services begin calling at the port.

The new services, jointly operated by Hamburg Sud and Hapag-Lloyd, will connect the Pacific Northwest port with the Mediterranean and also with New Zealand and Australia.

Earlier this year, the Grand Alliance carriers of Orient Overseas Container Line, Hapag-Lloyd and NYK Line announced their intention to move their vessel calls from the Port of Seattle to the Washington United Terminal in Tacoma.

Hamburg Sud is part of a vessel-sharing agreement with Hapag-Lloyd. The Mediterranean and Oceania services are jointly operated by Hamburg Sud and Hapag-Lloyd. U.S. Lines is also a partner.

Tacoma projects the new services will bring about 62,000 20-foot container units to the port each year.
