Indian Railways carried 171.91 million metric tons of revenue-earning freight traffic in April and May, the first two months of fiscal year 2013-14, increasing 4.6 percent or 7.53 million metric tons from 164.38 million metric tons moved during the same period last year.
In May, the revenue-earning freight traffic handled by Indian Railways was 88.19 million metric tons, up 4.8 percent or 4.06 million metric tons compared with 84.13 million metric tons in the same month in the previous year.
