Carriers cooperate on Far East-India services

1/15/2014 8:35:08 AM

Seven container shipping companies will cooperate on services between the Far East and Indian subcontinent starting next month.

CMA CGM, Maersk, APL, OOCL, Emirates Shipping, Hamburg Süd and Regional Container Lines said 18 vessels —  a total capacity of about 17,500 TEU — will be deployed on three existing Far East-Indian Subcontinent strings.

CMA CGM said the enhanced network will enable members to offer three sailings per week covering Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan; currently, one weekly sailing is offered by each carrier.

The multi-carrier cooperation will provide more frequent sailings, faster transit times and minimize route duplication, the carriers said.
The carriers said there will be a north, central and south loop.

  • The  north loop will be operated by CMA CGM and Maersk Line. Its rotation will be Tianjin – Dalian – Qingdao – Kwangyang – Busan – Ningbo – Hong Kong – Singapore – Tanjung Pelepas – Colombo – Pipavav – Nhava Sheva – Port Qasim – Singapore – Tianjin
  • The central loop will be operated by Hamburg Süd, OOCL and Regional Container Lines. Its rotation will be Shanghai – Ningbo – Xiamen – Hong Kong – Singapore – Colombo – Nhava Sheva – Pipavav – Port Kelang – Singapore – Hong Kong – Shanghai
  • The south loop will be operated by APL, Emirates Shipping Line and OOCL. Its rotation will be Nansha – Chiwan – Hong Kong – SingaporeColombo – Nhava Sheva – Pipavav –Colombo – Port Kelang – Singapore – Nansha
