Charleston April volume highest in six years

5/26/2014 8:08:01 AM

Container volume increased again at the Port of Charleston during April, making it the busiest month on the docks since May 2008.

The board of the South Carolina Ports Authority said that about 86,500 shipping containers passed through the port last month. That's over 500 more than were handled during March, which had been the busiest month since August 2008, reported Associated Press Newswires.

The ports board also approved a US$1.2 million contact for maintenance dredging at its Union Pier Terminal and about $900,000 for engineering for improvements at the Wando Terminal in Mount Pleasant.
