Effective 1st June 2007, Maersk Line will be introducing Terminal Handling Charge (THC) in Vietnam for all trades. The same amount will be charged across all trades as follows:
· - USD 65 per 20'
· - USD 98 per 40'
· - USD 140 per 45'
This charge will be effective for all export containers gate in full at Vietnam port on or after 1st June. For imports into Vietnam it is applicable for all containers gate in full at origin port on or after 1st June.
Many carriers charge a Terminal Handling Charge (THC) to their customers to cover terminal costs related to:
- The carrier receiving and storing export containerised cargo/cargo for containerisation at the terminal and delivering it to the vessel for loading.
- The carrier receiving from the vessel, import containerised cargo and arranging its storage at the terminal and movement from the terminal.
- Associated documentation arising from the above.
The THC is hence a commercial transaction between a carrier and its customers to handle the above mentioned terminal costs.
THC implementation is in line with operational costs incurred by ocean carriers, including Maersk Line, and is a common shipping practice in other main economies. THC improves the transparency of sea freight tariffs and specifies the costs, so customers can easily compare different service levels and prices. Therefore the THC principle has also been implemented in practically all the worlds’ major international ports.
